Fit Together in Action July News                     Fit Together 5210 School Highlights:  Torrington Middle School Community Fitness Trail On July 13 and 14 volunteers installed Phase One of the Torrington Middle School’s Community Fitness trail and will finish the five piece equipment installation on July 28. The five stations which will soon be ready for the community are a Trapeze, Joint Pull up, Push up, Parallel bars and a Vault. Fit Together in Action June News Fit Together 5210 School Highlights: Torrington Kids Marathon On June 2 more than 400 students from 14 area schools came to celebrate their final mile of the Torrington Kids Marathon at the Torrington High School track. This year all four Torrington elementary schools participated in the 26.2 mile challenge. Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone and School Superintendent Sue Lubomski were on hand and spoke to the students before the launch of the event. Fit Together in Action May News Fit Together 5210 School Highlights Health and Wellness Festival comes to Torringford School On May 17, Forbes and Torringford sister elementary schools teamed up to hosted an interactive wellness festival at Torringford. Committee chairs Janice Harrington and Erin Considine were thrilled with the turnout with over 600 people participating. This year the event changed venues and with the added space the festival was able to host more interactive booths and demos. Fit Together in Action April News Fit Together 5210 School Highlights-Torrington Kids Golf comes to the elementary schools Torrington Kids Golf: Fit Together’s Mini grant was used to purchase SNAG (Starting New At Golf) Equipment to introduce Torrington Kids Golf to all elementary school students districtwide.  This new program provides opportunities to get physical activity while promoting the sport of golf which can be played from an early age and throughout an adult’s life. Fit Together in Action March News Fit Together 5210 School Highlights: Vogel-Wetmore Tracks Healthy Behaviors all Month Long Mr. Egan, a Vogel Wetmore PE teacher provides each student a monthly 5210  calendar. Students are encouraged to track their healthy habits in each of the 5210 strategies, which are then reinforced during class. All students who turn in a calendar signed by their parents receive an extra PE class that Mr. Egan holds during his free period. Creating Healthy Families, One Child at a Time

Creating Healthy Families, One Child at a Time Eight weeks may not seem like a long time, but it was the perfect amount of time for four families to learn important lessons regarding nutrition (utilizing the 5-2-1-0 messaging), stress management, emotional eating, and physical activity. Beginning in September, four families from the greater Torrington area participated in the second session of the Families Fit Together program.
