Fit Together in Action January 2024 News Torrington Public Schools New Year/New You Poster Contest Fit Together is collaborating with Torrington Public Schools to offer a New Year/New You poster contest to all students.  Students can draw or create a digital poster with a health and wellness theme to align with Fit Together’s 5-2-1-0 message.  Physical education teachers from each school are encouraging students to participate.  Teachers will select two winning posters from each school.  The winning artist will receive a free smoothie from the FUEL Smoothie and Juice Bar, located inside Energy Health & Fitness Factory.  Winning posters will…

NEW Early Childcare Center Partner- Canaan Childcare Center Our new Fit Together partner, Canaan Childcare Center, received a grant through the Northwest Regional Early Childhood Alliance for the purpose of engaging parents into the school readiness community and to raise awareness of early childhood education needs. Fit Together in Action July News Partner Highlight- Camp Moe Fit Fun YMCA’s Camp Moe, a day camp in Litchfield County for boys and girls aged 5-15 years, has been providing campers recreational activities and social skills for over 10 years. This year, I had the pleasure of conducting an eight-week “Fun Fit” program through a partnership with YMCA and Fit Together. The daily program began with one-hour fitness games that kept kids moving and having fun, followed by a one-hour session of preparing a healthy snack that they were able to take home and share with their families.  The…

Fit Together in Action June News Partner Highlight- Southwest School Asphalt Activities Project – Fun Playground Time! In the Fall of 2021, Eric Mahar, Physical Education teacher at Southwest and Forbes elementary schools, proposed a project to the Building Healthier Communities Fund Advisors which would offer students a variety of constructive alternatives for physical activity when outside on the schools’ blacktops. Since this proposal was in alignment with Fit Together and Building Healthier Communities Fund missions, a grant was awarded for the stencils and other supplies, with the condition that they are shared with other schools.
