Partner Highlight- Camp Moe Fit Fun

YMCA’s Camp Moe, a day camp in Litchfield County for boys and girls aged 5-15 years, has been providing campers recreational activities and social skills for over 10 years. This year, I had the pleasure of conducting an eight-week “Fun Fit” program through a partnership with YMCA and Fit Together. The daily program began with one-hour fitness games that kept kids moving and having fun, followed by a one-hour session of preparing a healthy snack that they were able to take home and share with their families.  The kids were enthusiastic about trying healthy new foods and the self-confidence they experienced by recreating the snacks at home, which included power balls, fruit skewers, and smoothies.

Sue Grossman Greenway New Mile Marker Signs

Thanks to Ansis Bergs a community member who made the homemade wood signs and the City of Torrington for installation, trail users now know how far they have traveled along the 3.5- mile one-way trail. Annually thousands of people use the greenway including walkers, joggers, runners, bikers and other “wheels”.  Stayed tuned for more information on Fit Together’s Family Bicycle Rally which will be held on the greenway in late September.

Worksite Wellness- Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July® is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Recycling reduces the health risks of disease and birth defects associated with landfills and incinerators. Decomposing garbage produces carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane. These all contribute to the air pollution that causes various respiratory disease.

Grilled Eggplant Pesto Pizza Recipe

Fire up the grill for a savory pizza on your patio or deck. In Italy, fire-roasted pizzas feature many regional, flavorful ingredients, sometimes topped with fresh herbs after they're baked. This vegetarian version with its grilled flavors offers a delicious way to enjoy fresh vegetables — eggplant, tomato and onion — on a whole-grain crust, topped with fresh basil.
