HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Wishing you a happy healthy holiday season!

NEW Early Childcare Center Partner- Canaan Childcare Center

Our new Fit Together partner, Canaan Childcare Center, received a grant through the Northwest Regional Early Childhood Alliance for the purpose of engaging parents into the school readiness community and to raise awareness of early childhood education needs. Fit Together collaborated with Director Fran Chapell and local chef and caterer Charlene Dutka for a fun and educational evening.  On December 15, while Charlene prepared a healthy, family-friendly meal with parents in the cafeteria, the children and teachers were engaged in non-competitive games in the gymnasium lead by Fit Together coordinator Jessica Stewart.  The parents enjoyed getting to know each other, the meal was enjoyed by all, and Charlene shared recipes that the families can make together at home. At the end of the evening, parents received a $25 Stop & Shop gift card and the children left with books on nutrition and fitness and a fun toy to promote gross motor skills, such as a hopper ball or stilts.

Workplace Wellness- December is Universal Month for Human Rights

In 1948, the United Nations wrote up a document called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to prevent the atrocities that occurred during the Second World War. It states:

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Human Rights Month is about acknowledging that people of different races, religions, cultures and beliefs are still just that: people. Encourage employees to take the time to learn about cultures that are different from their own, and the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect.

Businesses and organizations committed to human rights principles can significantly increase employee job satisfaction, community support, and customer satisfaction.
