Fit Together in Action November News Fit Together 5210 School Highlights: Sensory Hallways The Torringford School Wellness Committee partnered with the Fit Together 5-2-1-0 Community Collaborative to purchase and install a Sensory Pathway at Torringford School. The pathway will be used as an opportunity for students to take movement breaks throughout their school day. These movements include; hopping, marching, hopscotch, crab walks and more! With today’s children and teen-agers immersed in digital media, researchers are warning of the negative effects on their development, including issues with memory, attention and language skills. And that’s not all. Too much or poor quality screen time has been linked to obesity, poor sleeping habits, behavioral problems, loss of social skills, less time for play and even violence. Fit Together in Action September News            Fit Together 5210 Highlights: Family Bicycle Rally Fit Together hosted their first Family Bicycle Rally on Sunday September 22 on the Sue Grossman trail. The free family event attracted more than 50 participants and included a strider bike obstacle course, raffle prizes and healthy snacks. Families had the choice to ride as little or as much as they wanted. A few families took advantage of the sunning last day of summer and complete two loops or 10 miles! Fit Together in Action August News    Fit Together 5210 Highlights: It’s all about BIKING To promote widespread recreation and fitness for our children, adults and families in our community Fit Together has launched a Bike Rack Sponsorship program and is hosting a Family Bicycle Rally in September. BIKE RACK PROGRAM Twenty sponsored bike racks will be placed throughout Torrington and Winsted to help promote physical activity and provide safe and convenient places for people to park their bikes while they do errands, go to the park, stop at the library or go to school. Fit Together in Action June News Fit Together 5210 School Highlights: Torrington Kids Marathon On June 2 more than 400 students from 14 area schools came to celebrate their final mile of the Torrington Kids Marathon at the Torrington High School track. This year all four Torrington elementary schools participated in the 26.2 mile challenge. Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone and School Superintendent Sue Lubomski were on hand and spoke to the students before the launch of the event.
