Vogel Wetmore Plans for Hydroponic Tower Garden

Vogel Wetmore School is excited to enhance their school garden with the addition of a hydroponic garden tower.  As one of Fit Together’s fall mini grant awardees this year-round garden will travel from classroom to classroom incorporating hands on learning both about science and about healthy foods.  Peter Michaelson the school principal added “as a community partner with Fit Together 5210, this project will help us support healthy eating choices for our student and families as well as our staff.”

Torrington Middle School Community Fitness Trail Complete

This multi-year, multi-phase fitness trail was made possible by grant funding from Fit Together, Robert Rosenheim Foundation, Walmart and Supreme Industries along with a lot muscle and sweat from TMS staff and community members.  Check out these 15 cool fitness elements focusing on both aerobic and strength exercises as well as flexibility and balance.

Staying Active in Winter

Don’t let colder temperatures and shorter days discourage you – winter fitness can be great fun! Outdoor exercise helps boost immunity during cold & flu season and exposure to sunlight can improve mood and provide Vitamin D.

  • Winter hiking, snowshoeing & cross country skiing. Check out the  CT DEEP website. 
  • Walking or running when conditions allow – don’t forget a hat & gloves, even if it’s a nice day.
  • You can’t grow up in New England and not go sledding. Try- Major Besse Park   or Topsmead State Park   fun for all ages!

There’s also ice skating, ice fishing, and even winter camping if you’re truly adventurous. Stay warm, stay safe and enjoy the beauty of the winter season.
