Kids’ Corner for August – Bike Safety
Biking is a healthy activity for kids that helps them master balance, strengthen their leg muscles, and is just plain fun! However, bike injuries are far too common in young children. This makes following bike safety rules a must. Below are some basic tips for biking safely:
- Remind your child that they must always wear a helmet when on wheels.
- Teach them the “rules of the road” – to always stop at stop signs and lights, to stay all the way to the right (riding with traffic,) and to ride on sidewalks when possible.
- Encourage them to stay alert to avoid cars, obstacles, and other bikers.
- Dress them in bright colors or reflective gear so they are easy to see.
