Fit Together in Action December 2022 News

Fit Families Program

This was Fit Together’s first in person Fit Families Program since COVID. We partnered with New Opportunities Inc., to offer a six week Wellness program for kids 6-10 years old and their parents/caregivers. Jessica Stewart, Fit Together’s coordinator and Caitlin Vinuelas, Northwest CT YMCA Branch Director were the facilitators.

The program incorporated nutrition/physical activity/mental wellness for the entire family. For the first half of each class the kids participated in fun physical activities/games, while the caregivers have their own session with a guest speaker. During the second half of class the entire family joined in on a fun interactive healthy habit lesson included making power balls and delicious infused water. There was great fun to be had by all!

Caregiver Speakers:

  • Carla Angevine MS, RDN Manager of Community Health Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and Fit Together Executive Director
  • Andrew Lyon, MPH, CPS   Director of Prevention Services McCall Center for Behavioral Health and Help, Inc.
  • Alejandra Tudela Health & Wellness Director Northwest CT YMCA

Worksite Wellness

National Handwashing Awareness Week is December 5-11.  It may seem obvious, especially in restaurants, to expect employees to wash their hands after using the bathroom.  But the COVID pandemic was a wake-up call on how – and how frequently – we should be cleaning our hands.

To help keep employees healthy, workplaces must accommodate their employees with the necessities for handwashing:  running water (warm or cold), soap, and either disposable towels or an electric hand dryer.  If soap and water are not readily available, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol should be used.
