Fit Together 5210 School Highlights: Torrington Kids Marathon
On June 2 more than 400 students from 14 area schools came to celebrate their final mile of the Torrington Kids Marathon at the Torrington High School track.
This year all four Torrington elementary schools participated in the 26.2 mile challenge. Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone and School Superintendent Sue Lubomski were on hand and spoke to the students before the launch of the event. Mentors, who help run the event, came from Torrington High School, Oliver Wolcott Tech and the Torrington Middle School.
“The amount of support that I get from the community is tremendous,” event organizer Tim Gaffney said. “Current and former students are always just a phone call away and look forward to helping out every year.”
Fit Together members Charlene Lee, Donna Labbe, and Jessica Steward are pictured here helping out on event day. In addition, Fit Together provided mini grant funds while Charlotte Hungerford Hospital became the event sponsor this year. Bananas were supplied by EdAdvance while the bags and bottles the participants got as they left the event were donated by Cigna.
The 2020 Kids Marathon will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2019 right back at Torrington High School
